You may have heard of Simon Biles; now it’s time for you to meet Tulsa native Jayla Moss.

Moss, 10, took the Oklahoma Level 6 Gymnastics State Championship by storm last weekend, winning the All-Around Title out of 109 competitors, which is a remarkable achievement since she only started training three years ago.

Moss is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in Oklahoma gymnastics; she usually places in the top three at competitions. Her dynamite-tumbling and incredible balance combined with a keen ability to focus under pressure to bring her four first-place finishes and one second-place finish at last weekend’s competition in Jenks, Okla. She placed first in three out of four events: Vault – 9.65 – 1st Place; Bars – 9.4 – 1st Place; Beam – 9.7 – 2nd Place; Floor – 9.6 – 1st Place; and All-Around – 38.375 – 1st Place.

Moss’ commitment is shown by her adherence to a strict training schedule. She trains four hours a day, five days a week at Dynamo Gymnastics, home of 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist Shannon Miller.

Moss is already looking toward the future. She plans to attend the University of Oklahoma, which is a superb choice for gymnastics because the Sooners have the number one ranked team in the collegiate field.

When we invest in our children’s futures the future is brighter for all of us. What a wonderful story about excellence through perseverance and dedication to the task at hand. My hat is off to the people in Jayla’s life that make sure that all she has to worry about is getting better. Kudos to you!
