TULSA, Okla.—Gathering Place is now accepting applications for one of its most popular children events of the year, Kids Take the Stage!

From poetry and singing, to playing instruments and dancing, children in grades K-12 can showcase their talents in front of a live audience at the Gather Round Stage on July 18 at 5:00 p.m.

Organizers plan to hold the event annually after a successful test run in 2019, according to Gathering Place representative Bailie Brown.

Learn through play

“We felt it was a huge success and thought why not bring it back,” Brown told The Black Wall Street Times.

Each child who participates will perform to a supportive and diverse audience in an effort to enhance self-confidence and creativity within young performers.

“The goal is to ‘learn through play’ and share different art forms that they can explore through their creativity,” Brown said. Organizers hope to help kids “get out of their comfort zone and be able to show off their talents for their supportive and inclusive community.”

Applications open

Kids participating may take the stage solo or as a group but must apply by June 30 at midnight. This fine arts-focused event will also include performances by the Gather Round Crew and Inspyral Circus, as well as interactive portions to get the entire audience involved.

There is no application fee and the event is free to attend thanks to the Explore and Imagine program funded by the AEP Foundation on behalf of Public Service Company of Oklahoma. Explore and Imagine programs at Gathering Place aim to increase access and equity through quality educational opportunities

“It’s so much fun to see kids of all ages and different talents get to smile and showcase what they love to do on stage with their peers,” Brown said.
