I have been the victim of thinking that we need leaders to make sustainable change, and I perceived those leaders to be only the affluent. A recent situation that I experienced left me so dispirited and frankly, it made me want to throw in the towel on activism.
When confronted with a situation that brings out that dangerous emotion called anger, you will always have choices as to how you handle that particular situation. React, or respond. We can all go back-over our lives and see what happens when we react, versus when we respond when confronted with something that makes the very hair on the back of our neck stand up and makes our blood boil.
With ‘race’ being an inescapable factor in the conversation of justice in America, it is irresponsible to omit the racial demographics of those incarcerated. On the Department of Corrections website, there is no place where you can see the total numbers of incarcerated individuals by their race, despite this information being available on each individual’s profile, along with height, weight, hair color, and eye color.
