Before the viral waves began crashing and disrupting public education, America had never genuinely risen to the challenge of educating all of its children.
Trump and his Republican associates have a history of using Black human props in efforts to pander to Black voters. I find it sickening and hope my people don’t fall for his bullshit because the Republican Party doesn’t own the school reform movement of today — people of color do.
“If a principal or a teacher finds out that a certain child is undocumented, or his or her family members are undocumented, do you feel that the principal or teacher is responsible to call ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and to have that family reported?”
Her response? “Sir, I think that’s a school decision. That’s a local community decision. And again, I refer to the fact that we have laws and we also are compassionate.”
Today’s legislators are treating lower and middle-class students and public school teachers, of every race, to the likes of, how white legislators treated African-American students and their Black pedagogues during legal segregation.
