When Letitia “Tish” James, the first Black woman elected Attorney General of New York, exercises the authority of her office, she is doing exactly what the law demands — yet somehow, that act has become grounds for political retribution. The attacks against her are not only an assault on one woman’s credibility; they expose a deeper and more troubling truth about how the Trump Administration continues to treat Black women who wield power.

The integrity of our justice system depends on it being blind to ideology, powerful in the face of wrongdoing, and uninterested in political vendettas. When prosecutorial power is wielded not to uphold the rule of law but to intimidate, punish, or silence political opponents, our freedoms and justice become threatened. Targeting political opponents through legal means transforms courts into weapons, not guardians. That kind of abuse erodes public trust and destroys our democracy.

In confronting this threat, Tish James is standing on the side of rule of law over politics. Her record shows a commitment to holding powerful entities accountable—whether corporations, public officials, even a former US President, or systems that prey on the vulnerable. In a time when the current Administration seeks to weaponize the justice system, Tish James’s vigilance stands as a steadfast bulwark against their abuse of power. She is not beyond reproach—and accountability is important—but she must be defended and supported against attacks that aim at her as a means of retribution for doing her job.

Let us not be fooled by claims dressed in legalese or procedural formality. The systemic pattern is clear – the current administration, threatened by Black women in positions of authority and public office, is pushing hard to destroy, discredit and eliminate us from positions of influence and power. Now that we see an indictment against Attorney General Tish James—suggests not a neutral system at work, but a justice system being weaponized against political opponents and others who don’t agree with them. And when the prosecutorial impulse becomes selective, vindictive, or politically directed, civil rights and justice are at risk.

As always, we hold space for Black women’s voices like MaryAnn Car and for Attorney General Letitia “Tish” James, who stands tall in the face of political retribution. We need your support to continue lifting these voices to a mass audience.

Attorney General James has spent her career championing accountability and equity — holding powerful institutions to the same standards as the citizens they govern. That she now faces unfounded political attacks says more about Donald Trump’s discomfort with powerful Black women. The justice system, in its abuse, becomes not a tool of fairness but a weapon of deterrence, desperate on sending a chilling message to Black women: know your place.

Although this dynamic is not entirely new. From Shirley Chisholm to Kamala Harris, Black women who ascend in political public service have had to confront — racism disguised as procedural critique, sexism wrapped in civility, and hostility dressed up as oversight. It is exhausting, yet we persist, because the work of justice is not optional. It is generational.

Now is the time to stand with Tish James whose commitment to the rule of law strengthens the foundations of our democracy. She is the embodiment of what public service should be. Standing with her is not partisan loyalty; it’s saying that the rule of law must protect us all, not control us all.

We stand in solidarity with Attorney General Letitia James because we know what’s at stake. Democracy cannot thrive when accountability is punished, when integrity is met with intimidation, and Black women are vilified for doing their jobs. Supporting Tish James is not simply about defending one person — it is about defending the very principle that justice must remain free from fear, politics, and prejudice.

In the end, this is bigger than one office or one case. It is a reflection of a system that remains uncomfortable with Black women at the center of power. But we will not retreat. We will continue to lead, to speak, and to stand up — because when Black women rise, democracy rises too.
