As twice-impeached President Donald Trump pushes Texas Republicans to gerrymander the state’s voting map, Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett gifted Trump with a new nickname, “Temu Hitler.”
As one of the most outspoken Democrats pushing back against the Trump Administration’s efforts to dismantle the Constitution, Rep. Jasmine Crockett has become a voice Republicans hope to silence.
Trump has called on Republicans to “find” five new seats in Texas. In response, Texas Republicans revealed a new congressional map this week that would add five Republican seats and cut Rep. Crockett out of her own district.

In a recent interview with Zerilina Maxwell of SiriusXM’s Mornings with Zerlina, Rep. Crockett blasted Trump’s efforts to dilute the voting power of Black and Latino Texans with a unique, witty style that has made her a rising star in national politics.
“They have decided that the only way that they can bring about this white supremacy agenda is by diluting the voices of people of color,” Rep. Crockett said. “And so what we have seen is, again, this rogue Department of Justice going out to do the bidding of this Temu Hitler. To the extent that he says, ‘listen, the only way that I can ensure that I will have no checks on me is if I can sure that those voices of color do not have representation.’”
Rep. Crockett condemns Trump Texas takeover
Recently, a Republican-commissioned poll showed Rep. Crockett with the best chance of winning a Texas Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Other polls show Democrats have a path to retake some power during the 2026 Midterm elections.
While both Democratic and Republican states incorporate some amount of gerrymandering in their maps, Texas has been accused of making drastic steps that violate the Voting Rights Act, which was passed to ensure Black and minority voters have the ability to elect a candidate of their choice.
In an instagram collaboration video with influencer theConsciousLee posted Saturday, Rep. Crockett noted that out of the 4 million new residents Texas has received, the vast majority of them have been people of color. Yet, the new map drawn by Republicans would create several new majority-white districts.
“You know they only care about Black representation when it’s ‘Blue. 42. Hut-hut,” ConsciousLee said.
“We added 4 million people in the last decade to this state, and of those 4 million people only 180,000 were Anglos. But somehow under Republican math, that means they get four new seats,” Rep. Crockett responded, calling out Trump and Republicans. “Certain people love to use our bodies for money and power.”
Texas House moves “unprecedented” map forward
On Saturday, a Texas House panel approved the draft of the new congressional maps, the Texas Tribune reported. During the hearing, Republican behind the bill, Rep. Todd Hunter (R-Corpus Christi), openly admitted the goal was to consolidate power.
“Different from everyone else, I’m telling you, I’m not beating around the bush,” Rep. Todd Hunter, said. “We have five new districts, and these five new districts are based on political performance.”
In an interview with Democracy Now, voting rights expert Ari Berman said the new map, if approved, would give Texas Republicans nearly 80% of seats in a state where Trump only won 56% of the vote in 2024.
“And it’s really unprecedented, because this Texas map is already gerrymandered by Republicans. It already limits Democratic representation. It already limits representation for communities of color. And now that would be much worse,” Berman said.
