Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley has respectfully declined an invitation to serve as a celebrity ambassador for President Donald Trump’s new national fitness program, the “President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition.”

The White House initiative, aimed at promoting physical activity and wellness among American youth, has been actively recruiting high-profile athletes to champion its cause.

In a statement released by his agent, Barkley expressed his gratitude for the offer. He cited his professional commitments as the primary reason for his decision.

“Saquon is honored to have been considered for such a role and supports the mission of encouraging a healthier nation,” the statement read. “However, with the NFL season fast approaching, his undivided focus is on training camp and preparing with his teammates for a successful year. His current regimen is highly specialized and requires his full attention.”

Saquon Barkley keeps his focus on the field

The administration unveiled the reinstated “Presidential Fitness Test” in July as a cornerstone of its domestic policy agenda. The program seeks to partner with major sports leagues and public figures.

The program encourages Americans, particularly children, to meet daily activity goals and engage in community sports. Several other athletes from the world of motorsports and combat sports have already signed on as spokespeople.

The decline from a player of Saquon Barkley’s stature has not gone unnoticed. Known for his incredible physique and legendary work ethic, Barkley is a walking advertisement for peak physical fitness.

His decision, while officially attributed to scheduling and professional focus, has drawn broader attention. Some commentators view it through the lens of the often-complex relationship between the sports world and politics.

Instead, Saquon Barkley’s attention remains squarely on the gridiron. As he enters a crucial period of preseason preparation, his priority is clearly on delivering results for the Eagles. The White House has not yet commented on the decision. The White House plans to continue reaching out to other prominent figures in the sports community.
