It reports on politics and policy through a gender lens, centering the experiences of women, LGBTQ+ people, and other underrepresented communities. Named for the 19th Amendment, the organization’s name includes an asterisk to acknowledge that the work of equity and inclusion is ongoing. The 19th is funded through philanthropy, memberships, and corporate underwriting, and makes its journalism free and republishable to promote broader access to information.
