The new Dollar General in North Tulsa’s District 1 will make the 16th discount dollar store in North Tulsa. City Council heard many citizens overwhelmingly speak out against the latest development of Dollar General and passed a 180 day moratorium to help find solutions to end the proliferation of these discount dollar stores in North Tulsa.
The very next day after the City Council vote, the developer, The Rupe Helmer Group, made a statement by starting the construction immediately. The Rupe Helmer Group was able to get their permits before the actual vote of the moratorium. Yes, that is called, “A slap in the face.” Despite the cries of the community, Dollar General still chose to move forward.
It seems hopeless to fight for anything in North Tulsa since we are always pushed, looked over and stepped upon. However, there is something very powerful that we can do as a community and that is to BOYCOTT. Do not shop at that Dollar General. Continue to shop at the stores you normally patronize. Dollar General refused to hear us, and so we will choose to ignore them and shut them down by not spending our money there.
SHUT IT DOWN! NO DOLLARS AT DOLLAR GENERAL ON PINE!
