Brokelahoma, a new feature-length documentary that gives you a peek into what is happening to America’s schools, will make its public premiere in Tulsa on Monday, September 23rd at Circle Cinema. The film delves into our country’s public school issues by interviewing current and former Oklahoma educators.
The idea for the film slowly came into being when filmmaker Titus Jackson was contacted by the Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association to make a promotional video in 2015. Being a parent of three public school children, he took this opportunity to interview educators about what they were encountering inside Oklahoma public schools. In 2016, Jackson created a music video spoof poking fun at Oklahoma’s public school woes among other issues plaguing our state. The video garnered thousands of views in a short period of time. Jackson decided to expand the concept into a feature-length documentary and continued to interview Oklahoma teachers over the next two years. In 2019, Brokelahoma was born.
The film covers the numerous issues that teachers face, culminating in the walkout of 2018. The film is hosted by Tulsa actor Aaron Michael King, and features interviews with educators and the occasional comedic sketch to illustrate the problems plaguing Oklahoma. Brokelahoma will screen at the Circle Cinema on September 23rd at 7 pm in Tulsa, and the Rodeo Cinema in Oklahoma City on September 24th at 7 pm.
