After winning the Rookie of the Year award for the National Women’s Soccer League in 2021, 19-year-old Trinity Rodman will become the highest paid player in league history after signing a contract extension with the Washington Spirit.
The daughter of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman and the youngest player to be drafted in NWSL league history, Rodman signed a four-year, $1.1 million contract extension.
“We’re incredibly excited to have Trin as a part of the Spirit family for at least the next three seasons,” Spirit coach Kris Ward said. “She has a truly special career ahead of her and makes us a better club on all fronts.”

Scoring goals and a seven-figure salary
Rodman joined the league last year on a three-year contract that averaged $42,000 per year in base salary, plus housing and bonuses according to the Washington Post. Her new extension is almost six times that amount.
The Spirit won the NWSL title last season, led by Rodman’s performance. Monday morning the U.S. Women’s National Team announced Rodman had been added to the roster for this month’s SheBelieves Cup.
Manager Vlatko Andonovski told reporters their goal was to ease Rodman into the demands of the National Team.
“She’s doing really good in the league, but the national team is a completely different animal,” Andonovski said Thursday. “We don’t want to burn her out — we want to give her a chance to slowly adjust herself to the system, to the structure and to absorb information slowly step by step instead of throwing everything at her.”
