According to media reports, VP Harris recently reached out to former 2016 Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for advice amid a turbulent first term.
Since entering office, Vice President Kamala Harris has had an uphill battle. But she believes it would be different if she were a White man. Clinton agrees, saying, “‘There is a double standard; it’s sadly alive and well,’ she told the New York Times.
‘A lot of what is being used to judge her, just like it was to judge me, or the women who ran in 2020, or everybody else, is really colored by that,’ said Clinton.
There is a clear and present double standard in the world for women. While climbing their ladder of success, they often experience unexpected and unwarranted assaults on their character, and potentially their bodies, far more than men. Nevertheless, sexism and even racism are far from the sole reason for Harris’ disapproval numbers.
VP Harris and Pres. Biden haven’t delivered
“Ms. Harris has privately told her allies that the news coverage of her would be different if she were any of her 48 predecessors, all of whom were white and male,” according to The NYT.
On its face this rings true, however, since entering office in January 2021, The Biden-Harris Administration has failed to manifest its loudest campaign promises. And these failures have not gone unnoticed.
The public outcry has been strong, but Vice President Harris is clearly listening to different voices. According to MSN, she’s also been in talks with former secretaries of state Madeleine Albright and Condoleezza Rice, as well as former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Americans voted. Now we wait… And wait.
With all of this guidance offered, a January CBS News poll still places both Harris and Biden at 44%. The poll states, “their approval ratings track very much the same across various groups, including among Democrats. People tend to approve or disapprove of them in tandem.”
Today, she and Pres. Biden draw essentially the same ratings from the Left, and they get similar approval today from Black Americans, Black Democrats in particular.
What Went Wrong?
Dem. Congresswoman Cori Bush slept on the Capitol steps to extend eviction moratoriums. Eight of VP Harris’ top White House aides exited the very young administration. Charlamagne Tha God and VP Harris got into a verbal spat over who runs the country. VP Harris told desperately fleeing immigrants “Do Not Come”in a press conference. Votings Rights are still at risk. Build Back Better “is dead.” The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act has stalled.
