Oklahomans urged to register to vote before Friday’s deadline

Friday, October 11th is the final day to register to vote in Oklahoma before the November 5th general election.

Voters will decide the fate of critical ballot initiatives, and choose who will hold key offices across the state and nation. Oklahoma voters can register for the first time or update an existing registration quickly, easily, and completely online.

The 2024 election comes on the heels of continued low voter turnout in the state. During the 2020 election, Oklahoma ranked last in the nation for overall voter participation. Fewer than 1.6 million people cast a ballot out of an estimated 2.9 million eligible voters in that election.

During the state’s race for governor in 2022, participation fell even further with only 1.2 million Oklahomans voting.

But amid two years of chaos from state leaders, a reported purge of voters from the rolls, and historic elections across the state and county, some are hoping Oklahomans will finally be galvanized to head to the voting booth in a few weeks time.

Online registration process is quick, simple, and easy to navigate

After years of work, Oklahoma recently unveiled a fully online voter registration system. This new online platform allows residents across the state to complete and submit a registration form in a few short minutes.

To register, Oklahomans should go to okvoterportal.okelections.gov/home. After confirming their eligibility, applicants will fill out a form with the following information:

• Their first and last name
• Their address (including county name)
• Their Oklahoma Drivers License number and the last four digits of their social security number
• Their chosen political party

After filling out this brief form and completing a brief online oath, applicants can click to submit the form for processing.

Once processed, voters will receive a registration card in the mail. This registration card will include their voter information, polling location, and more. Voters must bring either this registration card or a valid photo ID with them to vote.

Registered voters can also check their voter information, request an absentee ballot, check their sample ballot and more online.

Early voting in Oklahoma takes place from October 30th – November 2nd. Registered voters who wish to vote in person can vote early during those dates at their county election board, or on Election Day (November 5th) at their local polling place.
