In a move set to infuse the traditionally reserved world of professional golf with a dose of hilarious comedy, the PGA Tour has officially named legendary comedian Katt Williams as a special on-course correspondent for the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The announcement confirms that Williams will bring his famously sharp and unfiltered commentary to the fairways of the first FedExCup Playoffs event.

Williams will join ESPN golf analyst Michael Collins on “PGA Tour Live” Thursday, Aug. 7, and Friday, Aug. 8. The comedian will provide color commentary opposite Collins’ analysis.

In a video posted by PGA Tour Live, Katt Williams said, “Hi, folks. I’m Katt Williams, comedy legend turned golf broadcaster, and I’ll be joining the PGA Tour Live as an on-course correspondent for the first postseason event of the 2025 FedEx Cup Playoffs. I’ll be walking alongside the world’s best players as part of the marquee group coverage live Thursday and Friday morning.”

This isn’t Katt Williams’s first time on the course. He made an appearance during 2024’s Tour Championship, and the success of that trial run led to this expanded, official role.

Katt Williams is a dedicated golfer himself

The decision is seen as a deliberate strategy by the PGA Tour. The aim is to engage a broader, more diverse audience by blending sports with mainstream entertainment.

While the pairing might seem unconventional, Williams is a surprisingly dedicated and passionate golfer. Though he carries a 19 handicap—a number he attributes to a previous rotator cuff injury— Williams routinely shoots in the low 80s. His appreciation for the sport goes beyond just playing. “The thing that I like about golf is that it permeates so many different parts of your life,” Williams stated.

Moreover, this unique collaboration promises a broadcast unlike any other. Fans can anticipate Katt Williams offering his signature, no-holds-barred takes on everything from player fashion to high-pressure putts, providing a stark, humorous contrast to the sport’s typical hushed reverence.

As the PGA Tour expands its reach, bringing in one of comedy’s most distinctive voices is a bold move. Viewers worldwide will tune in to see if this blend of swagger and sport is a hole-in-one.

Fans can watch Williams and Collins break down the field — which includes the top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings — on ESPN+ beginning at 8 a.m. CDT, Thursday, Aug. 7.
