After a 13-year hiatus, the Scary Movie franchise is back with Scary Movie 6.
Set 26 years after the original 2000 film, the latest installment is being framed as a “rebooquel” — part reboot, part sequel — and promises to deliver the satirical nostalgia fans have been missing.
The trailer dropped on Monday, March 2, following the premiere weekend of Scream 7, signaling that the franchise is ready to roast the very horror trends it once helped define.
The ‘Core Four’ Return
The preview marks the return of the “Core Four” — Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) — along with their masked nemesis, “Ghostface.”

Fans also catch a glimpse of several new faces joining the chaos, including Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, Heidi Gardner, and Sydney Park. The additions aim to bridge the gap between the original Y2K fan base and a younger generation discovering the series for the first time.
No Horror Film Is Safe

The R-Rated Rauchiness Is Back
The Wayans family doesn’t shy away from politically incorrect humor. In the midst of being killed, one character, Sydney Park’s Dei Meeks, declares they would prefer to be addressed with they/them pronouns. In another scene, Cindy tells Brenda she’s unsure whether they should hug because she’s a Republican and is “supposed to be racist now.” Brenda responds by saying she believes all white people are racist anyway.

And, of course, the film reprises its tongue-in-cheek, NSFW humor, continuing the franchise tradition of the killer being taken down by a gaggle of sex toys.
With its signature raunchiness fully intact, the franchise’s return is also a deliberate move back to an R rating. The last installment, Scary Movie 5, was toned down to a PG-13 rating and widely criticized, earning a dismal Rotten Tomatoes score and leaving fans questioning the series’ future.
The Wayans Family Reclaim Their Creative Legacy
Perhaps the biggest storyline surrounding Scary Movie 6 is that the Wayans family has regained creative control of its creation. Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans have reunited as writers and producers on the series for the first time since Scary Movie 2.
In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marlon promised a “no holds barred” approach to the franchise’s return, calling the film an “equal opportunity offender” that prioritizes laughs over hurt feelings.
Director Michael Tiddes, known for A Haunted House and its sequel, is tasked with bringing back the original “Wayans flavor” to the big screen.
Early previews lean into the classic Wayans philosophy of “no trope untouched,” suggesting that no horror stone will be left unturned as the franchise attempts to reclaim its original identity.
Scary Movie 6 hits theaters nationwide on June 5, 2026.
