Frustrations had been building inside juvenile detention centers nationwide as the number of coronavirus cases continued to climb. Now, her 17-year-old son Jace, was on the phone telling her around 40 kids had rioted at his facility in Louisiana.
The virtual teen wellness series is a space for teens to share their experiences with social distancing, connect with other teens around the country, and learn from certified life coaches.
“In the African American community, homegoing celebrations, funerals, are just a part of a very spiritual experience that allows family and the community to move this ancestor onto the afterlife,” Jamon Jordan said.
“The relationships that I have with my students, staff, and families are irreplaceable, and I greatly miss them. However, I get to see them daily in their own environment on ZOOM,” stated school principal Lynnette Dixon.
