As cases of COVID-19 continue to surge across Oklahoma, straining our hospitals and endangering our youngest Oklahomans, Save Our State has announced a live, virtual town hall and call to action on Monday night at 7 p.m.

A panel of three community leaders will answer questions about the current situation in our stare and the need for greater action from the Governor – including declaring a state of emergency, according to a press release.

The panel will include:

  • OK state Representative John Waldron (D-Tulsa).
  • Dr. Jabraan Pasha.
  • Tulsa Board of Education President Stacey Woolley.

The event will be live streamed from the Save Our State Oklahoma Facebook page.

Oklahoma governor refuses mask mandate for schools despite public pressure, rising cases

For the past several weeks, parents, educators, healthcare officials and concerned citizens across the state have pleaded with Governor Stitt to take action as cases rise.

Between last Thursday and Friday alone, Oklahoma recorded more than 4600 new cases, hundreds more hospitalizations and 17 new deaths. Children across our state are becoming infected and requiring hospitalization at a rate we have not seen before throughout this pandemic.

“It is unconscionable, then, that Governor Stitt would actively prohibit schools from implementing mask requirements to keep students and teachers safe,” the release stated. “When the Governor signed SB 658, he took away the ability of local public school boards to take measures to fully protect their students without a state of emergency in place. This crisis is of his own making.”

Organizers with Save Our State say they’re committed to doing all they can to move leaders to action and keep Oklahomans informed about how to protect themselves and their communities as this virus continues to spread.

“We continue to urge the Governor to act immediately and encourage all Oklahomans who believe in protecting the health and safety of our children to call on him to do the same. Lives are on the line.”
