The Key Bridge Collapse became the main focus in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Baltimore, Maryland, when a large container ship collided with it, causing a catastrophic collapse of a portion of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

The accident reported around 1:30 a.m., led to the closure of the vital Interstate 695 corridor, which facilitates north and southbound traffic, with vehicles reportedly plunging into the Patapsco River below after the structure gave way.

The container ship, identified as the “Dali” flying under a Singapore flag, was navigating towards its ultimate destination in Colombo, Sri Lanka, when it struck the bridge. This collision ignited a fire and resulted in significant structural damage, prompting an immediate response from emergency services and transportation authorities. In response to the unfolding crisis, the Maryland Transportation Authority swiftly took to X to announce the full closure of the bridge in both directions, labeling the situation as an “incident” and advising motorists on detour routes via I-95 and I-895 to circumvent the affected area.

Baltimore’s Mayor, Brendon Scott, conveyed his awareness of the catastrophic event through a statement on X, indicating that he, along with city and state leadership, would be heading to the scene.

“Emergency personnel are on scene, and efforts are underway,” he assured the public, highlighting the rapid mobilization of response teams to address the aftermath of the collision.
