PARIS โ In a triumphant display of athletic prowess and unwavering determination, Team USAโs gymnasts have secured their place in the Team Finals at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Simone Biles, the celebrated and decorated gymnast, spearheaded the women’s team with her signature blend of grace and power, while Frederick Richard emerged as the standout leader for the men’s team, showcasing exceptional skill and precision.
Biles and Lee Set the Stage for Team Success
The women of Team USA automatically qualified for Tuesdayโs team final at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, led by Olympic champions Simone Biles and Suni Lee, who are currently in first and second place in the all-around standings after two subdivisions of qualifying at Bercy Arena.
Competing in Subdivision 2 on Sunday, Biles (Spring, Texas), Lee (St. Paul, Minn.), Jade Carey (Phoenix, Ariz.), Jordan Chiles (Vancouver, Wash.), and Hezly Rivera (Oradell, N.J.) posted the highest team score of their subdivision with a 172.296. Italy, with a score of 166.861, is currently in second place, followed by China with 166.628.
The top eight teams, the top 24 all-rounders, and the top eight on each apparatus will advance to their respective finals. Final qualification results will be posted after the conclusion of Sundayโs qualification rounds.
Biles, who has the top all-around score with 59.566, leads on vault (15.300; 15.800, 14.800) and floor exercise (14.600). She also ranks second on balance beam (14.733) just behind Chinaโs Yaqin Zhou (14.866) and is eighth on uneven bars (14.433). Lee holds the second all-around score with a total of 56.132, ranking third on both bars (14.866) and beam (14.033).
Carey is second on vault with a score of 14.433 (14.666, 14.200), while Chiles is second on floor exercise with a score of 13.866.
U.S. Men’s Team Advances to Final
The U.S. menโs team secured a spot in Mondayโs team final at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, with Frederick Richard and Paul Juda advancing in the all-around competition and Stephen Nedoroscik qualifying on pommel horse following Saturdayโs qualifying round at Bercy Arena.
The U.S. team, consisting of Asher Hong (Tomball, Texas), Paul Juda (Deerfield, Ill.), Brody Malone (Aragon, Ga.), Stephen Nedoroscik (Worcester, Mass.), and Frederick Richard (Stoughton, Mass.), advanced to the team final in fifth place with a score of 253.229. The top four teams were China (263.028), Japan (260.594), Great Britain (256.561), and Ukraine (253.893). Italy, Switzerland, and Canada complete the eight nations set to compete in the final.
Frederick Richard and Paul Juda advanced to the 24-athlete all-around final, placing 10th (83.498) and 13th (82.865), respectively. Boheng Zhang of China was the top qualifier with a score of 88.597.
Stephen Nedoroscik advanced to the pommel horse final after both he and Rhys McClenaghan of Ireland posted a matching score of 15.200 in qualifications. Nedoroscik moved on in second position as McClenaghan posted a higher execution score (8.900) compared to Nedoroscikโs (8.800).
Additionally, Asher Hong is the first reserve on still rings and vault, while Frederick Richard is the third reserve on the horizontal bar.
