Tulsa Housing Authority (THA) will close the waitlists for both its River West community and for Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers on Wednesday, September 18 at 4 p.m.

Applications for both River West (located at 975 West 22nd Place, Tulsa) and Section 8 vouchers will be accepted through Wednesday, September 18 at 3:59 p.m.

These waitlist closures will not impact any applicant already on the waitlist. Waitlists for all other THA properties will remain open.

There are currently over 9,200 applicants on the waitlist for River West and over 9,800 applicants for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program, causing the wait time to be housed to reach up to two years. There are more than 69,000 applications across all THA properties and voucher programs.

“The number of applications on our waitlists is indicative of the tremendous, unmet need for affordable housing in Tulsa,” said Aaron Darden, THA President & CEO. “Because our wait times are reaching the two-year mark, we’ve decided to close the waitlists for River West and for housing vouchers to prevent even longer wait times as we process existing applications.”

River West is Tulsa’s first Choice Neighborhoods Initiative development, receiving $35 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Choice Neighborhoods grant program. River West is comprised of 435 mixed-income apartment units.

Tulsa Housing Authority will announce when the River West and housing voucher waitlists reopen.

To apply for housing through THA, visit www.tulsahousing.org.  If applicants require assistance in completing the application, they may visit the management office property for which they are applying, visit THA’s Central Office (415 E. Independence St. in Tulsa) or call 918-581-5944 to request assistance.
