ATLANTA, Ga.–Black Voters Matter, an organization devoted to increasing voter turnout for the presidential election, launched a $15 million campaign to rally Black voters across 12 states.

BVM’s campaign seeks to amplify important issues impacting Black communities, including education, economic justice, healthcare access and equity, according to a press release.

The campaign began Friday with stops in Alabama. Throughout the month of September, the campaign heads to Pennsylvania, Georgia, Ohio and Florida.

“If the last couple of months have shown us anything, it’s that Black voters are crucial to shaping the direction of this country,” said Cliff Albright, co-founder and executive director of Black Voters Matter.

The campaign comes just less than two months before the Tuesday, November 5 election date. Ultimately, Americans will decide between twice-impeached, criminally convicted former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Despite only entering the race in July after Biden dropped out, Harris and her VP pick Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have risen in the polls. FiveThirtyEight shows Harris with a slight lead of 48.3% support to Trump’s 45.3%.

“The energy around this history-making ticket is clear, and we’re on the ground harnessing that power, translating it to real change at the ballot box,” Black Voters Matter co-founder LaTosha Brown said.

Black Voters Matter heads to 12 states

In total, the campaign seeks to reach voters in the South, where the majority of Black Americans live. BVM is also heading to crucial swing states that will decide the election in what is expected to be a tight margin.

Political pundits and pollsters don’t normally focus on Alabama, Texas and Louisiana as states to watch. They’ve voted reliably Republican for decades. Black Voters Matter, however, is expanding resources in these states, home to some of the largest Black communities in the nation.

Meanwhile, swing states like Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin are also on the campaign’s destination list.

As disinformation from politicians and sophisticated AI technologies infect voters, BVM remains dedicated to reminding Black Americans of their voice.

The campaign acts “as a broad call to action, unifying local and national voting rights organizations, celebrities, social justice advocates, faith leaders, and HBCU students in a battle for hard-earned fundamental freedoms.”
