Tulsa, Okla.– Inspire Expressions Media is launching Keepin’ It REEL: Truth 2 Screen, a documentary filmmaking camp designed to empower young storytellers. Kicking off Black History Month on February 1st at the Black Wall Street Art Gallery, the program will give students ages 10 to 18 hands-on experience under the guidance of Emmy-winning filmmakers.
This initiative is an extension of the successful Keepin’ It REEL: Script 2 Screen camp, shifting the focus to documentary filmmaking, previously covered by The Black Wall Street Times.
In this year’s program, students will form production teams and create two short documentaries by the program’s conclusion. The camp teaches technical filmmaking skills while emphasizing the importance of storytelling in amplifying underrepresented voices.
Short documentaries in production during film camp
The camp will produce two impactful films:
- Breaking Barriers: East Central’s Historic Flag Football Victory – A documentary highlighting the East Central Girls’ Football Team’s historic championship win and its role in shaping opportunities for young women in sports.
- We R One: Kode Ransom’s Journey of Mentorship and Community – A story following Kode Ransom’s work as a mentor and leader, demonstrating the power of unity, resilience, and community engagement.
Students will receive training in cinematography, directing, lighting, and interviewing while filming on location. The finished films will be submitted to film festivals across the country.
