TULSA, Okla. — For the fifth year in a row, Oklahoma State University-Tulsa is turning its campus into a Back to School Bash for Tulsa families.
On Monday, August 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., OSU-Tulsa will host its annual Community Back to School Bash, offering free backpacks, school supplies, live performances, immunizations, and a chance for families to connect with more than 45 local organizations before the new school year begins.
“Back to School Bash has become a cherished tradition for our campus, offering a chance to support local families and education in a big way,” said Alnetta Morris, community engagement coordinator at OSU-Tulsa. “We’ve been able to hand out hundreds of backpacks filled with supplies each year. Last year, we broke our record by giving away over 1,000 bags – this year, we’re on track to do it again.”
Backpacks and supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis inside OSU-Tulsa’s Main Hall. Attendees are encouraged to park in Lot A and walk through a corridor of resource booths offering information on everything from youth mentoring to housing support.
Tulsa Back to School Bash includes performances
Representatives from OSU-Tulsa Police, Tulsa Police Department, EMSA, Tulsa Fire Department, and the City of Tulsa Water and Sewer Department will be on hand to engage with students and families. Free immunizations provided by the Tulsa Health Department will also be available.
The event doubles as a showcase for local youth talent, with performances from school bands, dance teams, and community groups building energy throughout the evening.
“Helping families get what they need to pursue their educations – that’s what we’re all about,” said Craig Freeman, vice provost and dean of the College of Professional Studies at OSU-Tulsa. “By providing supplies and connecting families to community resources, we’re fulfilling OSU-Tulsa’s mission to equip future leaders and scholars with the tools they need to succeed now and in the years ahead.”
The bash is made possible through partnerships with sponsors Chase Bank, ONE Gas, and Tinker Federal Credit Union.
