On Saturday, May 25, 2019, Memorial Day weekend, Tulsans will participate in a soil collection ceremony to begin paying homage to the lynched victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

All members of the Tulsa community are encouraged to attend the event that will begin promptly at 5 pm at the Historic Vernon Chapel AME Church (311 N Greenwood Ave, Tulsa, OK 74120).

Vernon Chapel is the last remaining edifice standing since the 1921 race massacre.

The ceremony will work in union with the Tulsa African Ancestral Society’s 22nd annual Black Wall Street Memorial March.

Dr. Robert Turner is this year’s Keynote Speaker.

In partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative, the Tulsa Community Remembrance Coalition‘s soil collection ceremony marks the first phase of events leading up to the highly-anticipated opening of the Tulsa County Lynching Memorial, which is scheduled to open in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Historic Vernon Chapel AME Church on September 14, 2019.

The following recognitions are just 36 of the 300 plus victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre which are currently memorialized at the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama.
