LONDON, UK – Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced dramatic measures today, ordering British citizens to stay at home.
According to Sky News, all businesses aside from food stores and pharmacies, will be forced to shutter their doors. Residents will not be allowed outside for any reason aside from purchasing food, securing healthcare needs or for a once-a-day exercise regimen alone.
The Prime Minister also urged citizens to utilize delivery services as often as they can as opposed to leaving their homes.
“You should not be meeting friends… you should not be meeting family members who do not live in your home,” said Johnson. “From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction – you must stay home.”
Johnson also gave local police the authority to disperse gatherings and fine individuals who did not follow the new strict guidelines.
As the virus continues its spread across the globe, including in the United States, calls are increasing on President Trump and governors across the country to take similar measures to prevent the spread.
Multiple recent studies show dire consequences if “shelter in place” mandates are not put in place quickly, with the potential for millions of Americans to lose their lives within the next few months.
