TULSA, Okla. — Due to the COVID-19 threat, the test excavation will be postponed until it is safe to continue. Travel restrictions and shelter in place orders have been instituted across the country and the City received guidance provided by the University of Oklahoma, the team leading the research, to postpone the test excavation. Once it is safe to continue, the City will provide an update once a new date is scheduled.
Since the last Public Oversight Committee Meeting, the City has moved forward with another aspect of the 1921 Graves Investigation. Rolling Oaks Memorial Gardens and the University of Oklahoma signed an agreement to conduct the above-ground scanning at the remaining location identified in the original scope of work for the 1921 Graves Investigation. The three other sites – Oaklawn Cemetery, Newblock Park and the Canes are already complete. More information about the Rolling Oaks Memorial Gardens work will be provided at a later date when the pandemic threat has passed.
