GREENWOOD Dist. — In a historic move that signifies a defining chapter in Langston University’s journey, the A&M Board of Regents has introduced Dr. Ruth Ray Jackson as the institution’s newest President. After a rigorous eight-month selection process that attracted numerous distinguished candidates, Dr. Jackson stands out as the embodiment of visionary leadership set to steer Langston toward a future brimming with potential.

Dr. Jackson’s Professional Journey: A Testament to Leadership and Commitment

“Dr. Jackson’s appointment underscores her exceptional leadership and vision for our institution. During her tenure as Interim President, Dr. Jackson maintained continuity and stability and managed to build momentum. Her unwavering commitment to Langston’s mission and her ability to navigate critical transitions have been commendable. We are confident that under her guidance, Langston University will excel,” commented Board Chair Joe Hall.

Before stepping into the position of Interim President in July 2023, Dr. Jackson held the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs. Prior to her Vice Presidency, she held the role of Associate Vice President for Student Success at the university. Dr. Jackson’s journey with Langston University commenced in 2014 when she joined as the Dean and Professor for the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

Prior to her tenure at Langston University, she dedicated 11 years to Louisiana State University in Shreveport. There, she served in various capacities, including faculty member, graduate program director, and department chair. Prior to her venture into academia, Dr. Jackson honed her skills in public education. As a public educator, she served as a high school English teacher, assistant principal, and principal.
