On June 18th, voters across District 11 (Downtown, North Tulsa, and Kendall Whittier) will select their next Oklahoma State Senator.
Current State Senator Kevin Matthews is term-limited and will not be on the ballot. Current State Representative Regina Goodwin and former Tulsa City Councilor Joe Williams both filed to run for the seat. Because no Republican or Independent candidate filed to run, the winner of the Democratic primary will win the seat.
Over the past year, Tulsans have witnessed their city and public schools come under frequent attack from numerous state-level authorities. Elected officials like Ryan Walters and Kevin Stitt continue to use their positions to harm students, families, and teachers alike.
These repeated attacks make it more important than ever that Tulsans, especially North Tulsans, have a proven leader and advocate fighting for them at the Capitol. We believe, beyond any doubt, that leader is Regina Goodwin.
Throughout her time as a State Representative, Goodwin has been a voice of reason, wisdom and force.
When legislators pushed to criminalize peaceful protest across the state, Representative Goodwin took them to task.
When politicians pushed political ideologies and harmful policies on our education system, Representative Goodwin defended our schools.
And as survivors and descendants of the Tulsa Race Massacre are denied justice, Rep. Goodwin steadfastly demands reparations. If elected, Goodwin would become the first descendant of the massacre to serve in the state senate.

Regina Goodwin has a proven track record of success during her time in the state legislature
With Republican supermajorities in the House and Senate, passing any Democrat-led legislation can be an all-but-impossible task. And yet three powerful and transformational bills authored by Goodwin are now law.
Due to her unwavering efforts, Oklahomans can receive a $360 stipend to act as caregivers for their ailing family members. In 2019, after years of work, Governor Stitt signed Regina Goodwin’s bill, helping those convicted of felonies better understand how and when to have their voting rights restored.
And perhaps most profoundly, Goodwin’s 2018 bill, crafted alongside Tulsa community advocate D’Marria Monday, finally banned the barbaric practice of shackling incarcerated women during their labor and delivery in Oklahoma.
Goodwin’s opponent in the race, Joe Williams, served as a Tulsa City Councilor from 1994-2004. In 1997, he became the first Black Tulsan ever to be appointed as the council’s chairperson. Mr. Williams has earned a place in our city’s history. His ongoing penchant for public service is admirable and worthy of appreciation.
However, at this moment, we believe the person best suited to serve as the next Senator from District 11 is the one who has spent the better part of this last decade consistently showing up every day to fight for the people of Tulsa and truly all of Oklahoma. That person is Representative Goodwin.
On Tuesday, June 18th, we encourage those in District 11 to vote Regina Goodwin for State Senate.
