TULSA, Okla. โ The Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Tribes Association will hold their next public meeting on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Ancestral Hall at Rudisill Library, 1520 N Hartford, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74106.
The meeting is free and open to the public, continuing the organizationโs ongoing mission to fight for the rights of Freedmen and their descendants.
The nonprofit organization advocates for the enforcement of the 1866 treaties that granted Freedmen equal tribal rights, including access to tribal payments, services, and enrollment.
Many Freedmen descendants continue to face discrimination from tribal governments that historically allied with the Confederate states to perpetuate Black enslavement. The group also challenges the U.S. governmentโs role in failing to uphold treaty obligations to Freedmen citizens.

Political engagement, community support at Freedmen Descendants meeting
Elected officials and candidatesโboth tribal and non-tribalโwill be recognized during the meeting, providing an opportunity for direct engagement on policies affecting Freedmen descendants. Attendees will also receive updates on political events in Oklahoma and Washington, D.C., which have a direct impact on the Freedmen community.
The meeting will feature tribal registration assistance and genealogy resources to help attendees trace their ancestry and navigate enrollment challenges within the Five Tribes.
