OKLAHOMA CITY — Indivisible Oklahoma announced today it will gather to protest an upcoming book signing event hosted by U.S. Senator James Lankford.

“Outraged constituents are tired of being ignored for months on end. All attempts at communication have been unsuccessful. The senator refuses to hold town hall meetings and is avoiding his fellow Oklahomans,” said Pat Reaves, event organizer. “We insist on accountability, and Senator Lankford has made no effort to answer questions or comfort his constituents as the leader of our nation shreds the Constitution, dismantles the Social Security Administration, commits illegal acts, and thumbs his nose at the rule of law.”

Senator Lankford’s new book, Turnaround: America’s Revival, calls for civic engagement. He writes:

“Our civic duty is far more than voting; it is personally reflecting what we want in our nation so that together we can make a better nation. If you want a national turnaround, you have to do more than vote and say someone else will fix it—you have to jump in yourself. If we want our government to do its job, we should also do our job of being the local role model — fixing the local problems.”

In the spirit of that message, Indivisible Oklahoma says it is doing exactly what the senator calls for—jumping in. The group plans to protest peacefully outside the Full Circle Bookstore in Oklahoma City on April 25 at 4 p.m., exercising its First Amendment right to assemble.

“As the senator suggests,” Reaves added, “the people will not only vote in coming elections, they will also lead by example and be the local role models for a true government turnaround.”
