TULSA, Okla. — Open Design Collective has officially announced the launch of the Black Town Homecoming Project, a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with the Oklahoma Historical Society to honor the legacy and future of Oklahoma’s historic Black towns of Tullahassee, Taft, and Rentiesville.
“This project is both a call to action and a celebration,” said Vanessa Morrison, co-founder and CEO of Open Design Collective.
This launch event will take place in the heart of Tulsa’s historic Greenwood District at Fulton Street Books & Coffee on Saturday, September 20th, from 5 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.
This event is free and open to the public, and will bring attendees together to celebrate the introduction of the project while previewing what’s ahead.
“We’re excited to collaborate with the Oklahoma Historical Society on this project, which builds from the contributions of the community leaders of these towns and the preservationists who came before us and made sure that these communities are never forgotten,” Morrison added.
Guests will enjoy drinks, light bites, music from a live DJ, and a special appearance by The Conscious Lee.
Lee is an educator, content creator, and social media influencer whose work focuses on social justice, identity, and systems of power.
The Black Town Homecoming Project uplifts the resilience and cultural significance of Oklahoma’s Black towns.
