Renowned singer John Legend has pulled no punches in his recent remarks about former President Trump, asserting that racism runs deep within Trump’s essence.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, Legend reflected on Trump’s response to the Black Lives Matter protests sparked by the tragic murder of George Floyd in 2020.

“When we protested the killing of George Floyd, he was advocating for the military to shoot us in the streets,” Legend stated unequivocally. “He has made it clear throughout his life that he believes Black people are inferior. Like, he believes that, to his core, in his bones.”

Trump’s Pattern of Racially Charged Remarks and Actions

Reports from then-Defense Secretary Mark Esper revealed Trump’s shocking inquiry in 2020 about the possibility of shooting protesters in the legs during nationwide unrest. General Mark Milley, who chaired the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the time, corroborated Trump’s inclination for law enforcement to “crack their skulls,” as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Trump’s history is riddled with accusations of racism, even preceding his political career. He launched his 2016 campaign with disparaging remarks about immigrants, labeling them as criminals and “racists.” Earlier this year, he speculated that “the Black people” appreciate him more due to his criminal indictments.

In February, during an event in South Carolina, Trump remarked, “And a lot of people said that’s why the Black people like me, because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against, and they actually viewed me as I’m being discriminated against.” He then added, “It’s been pretty amazing, but possibly, maybe, there’s something there.”

Legend Denounces Trump’s Pretense of Support for Black Americans

John Legend also highlighted Trump’s discriminatory practices in his real estate ventures, a fact documented by the FBI as early as 1973.

“He believes in a genetic hierarchy of humanity, and it’s racially determined,” Legend asserted.

Despite his controversial record, Trump has been actively seeking to court Black voters, attending events such as the Black Conservative Federation’s annual gala and hinting at selecting a Black running mate.

However, Legend dismissed Trump’s claims of being a champion for Black Americans, particularly citing Trump’s past statements advocating for extreme measures against minor offenses like shoplifting.

“He is a tried and true, dyed-in-the-wool racist,” Legend stressed. “In the core of his being, he is a racist. So I don’t want to hear what he has to say about what he’s done for Black people. He’s done very little for us, and he is, at his core, truly, truly a racist.”

John Legend’s Clarity on Campaign Trail Choice and Nuanced Critique of Biden

As Legend prepares to hit the campaign trail later this year, he believes the choice between the candidates is “very clear.” He also addressed criticisms of President Biden’s past statements, signaling a nuanced understanding of historical contexts and ongoing societal challenges.

In response to Legend’s assertions, Trump campaign senior advisor Lynne Patton attempted to deflect attention onto Biden’s past remarks, illustrating the ongoing discourse surrounding race and politics in America.
